What we guarantee you

  • A vehicle from the group you have specified, or if a vehicle in that group is not available a vehicle form a better one for the same price.

  • A vehicle that meets or exceeds all legal requirements for driving on New Zealand roads.

  • A car that is always well maintained.

  • A vehicle that is clean, well prepared and ready to drive away at the fully inclusive price that we have quoted you.

  • A vehicle that has gone through and passed a 50 point check before we give you the keys.

  • A vehicle that comes with a full tank of fuel - you can either return the vehicle with a full tank, or pay for the fuel you have used.

  • We offer a choice of insurance protection covers. Ask your smartcars rental agent.

  • An accurate bill at the end of the rental period.

  • If we have agreed to deliver the vehicle to you, we will be on time.

  • In the very unlikely event that you break down, we provide a full roadside assistance service.

  • We can offer you a one way rental service.

  • Friendly service at all times.

What we ask of you

  • That you are at least 25 years of age

  • That you have held a full licence for at least one year and you have no serious endorsements. Your licence should be in English and needs to be presented to our rental agent when you collect your car. New Zealand Law requires that you carry your licence when driving.

  • That you pay the necessary deposit. We recommend use of a major credit card.

  • That you tell us what you plan, to do with the vehicle, so we can ensure you get the right vehicle.

  • That you return the vehicle as agreed. Extension is possible, but you must talk with the office you rented your vehicle from in advance.

  • That you do not let anyone else drive without authorization from us.

  • That you do not take the vehicle off this Island without our written agreement before departure.

  • That you return the vehicle to us clean and with no damage.

  • That you keep the vehicle secure at all times.

Your Guide to Payment

There are a number of ways you can pay us. In each case the charges will be explained to you before you rent from us and the completed rental agreement will become a detailed GST Tax Invoice, available at the end of your rental.

The Deposit
At the start of your rental we require a sum equivalent to total value of the rental, plus a damage liability deposit and a fuel deposit.

Credit Cards
By far the easiest way to pay your deposit is by major credit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB and Diners Club. At the start of your rental we will take an imprint of your credit card and we gain authorization from your credit card company for the value of the rental plus the fuel and damage liability deposits.

Cheque
Sorry we do not accept cheques.

Cash
You can pay cash, but please be aware we will ask for a large sum to cover the deposit. We will require additional identification from you.

Qualification
Remember, however you are paying you will need to bring your drivers licence and any voucher or other identification that relates to your rental booking.
